Profiting of recent TestDay about Gnome software rendering , i have tested a new Fedora 17 Gnome on a very old notebook. It is a PackardBell EasyNoteR4355, “until to yesterday” was impossibile to perform a normal Gnome-shell experience with it; in fact the fallback mode appeared always caused by the limited resource of the PC’s CPU/video.
The performance’s improvements with Gnome software rendering is relevant if think that this notebook has 1024MB shared memory (256MB for the Intel 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics device) and a CPU Intel Celeron 1.30GHz.
Have fun !
